THE MINES CELEBRATES MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL WITH 30 UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN AND EXCITING PERFORMANCES FOR SHOPPERS AND ENTIRE FAMILY
In conjunction with the Mid Autumn Festival, The Mines Shopping Mall (The Mines) recently organised a lantern festival for 30 underprivileged children from Ti-Ratana Welfare Society of Malaysia.
The event area is also decked up with over 150 hand painted lanterns by the students of the Secretariat Pesta Tanglung from University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Secretariat Pesta AngPow from University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Zhong Hua Cultural Arts Society from University Putra Malaysia (UPM).
The underprivileged children and shoppers were entertained with a Little Moon Fairy contest, Chinese traditional dance performance, Chinese diabolo performance, Wushu and quiz sessions. The Mines has also given out mooncake, pomelo fruits and 300 lanterns to shoppers who turned up during the evening.
For the Little Moon Fairy contest, 10 kids aged between 6 to 12 years old dressed-up in a creative and interesting costume that symbolizes the Goddess of the moon “Chang Er” have showcase their talents in singing, dancing etc. Winners were determined based on the following scoring: Costume (40%), Catwalk (10%), Talent (30%) and Overall Presentation (20%).
The champion of this contest, Yap Wei Xin, 12 years old who impressed the judge with her creative outfit and amazing voice on the talent round walked home with prizes worth RM300 consisting of a RM250 SPOTLIGHT voucher, RM10 Subway voucher and RM40 Fish & Co. voucher; followed by 1st runner-up, Felicia Koo, 11 years old who performed stunning acrobatics talent, has won herself a RM250 prize consisting of a RM200 SPOTLIGHT voucher, RM10 Subway voucher and RM40 Fish & Co. voucher and Chow Hing Tong, 11 years old as 2nd runner-up with RM200 prize consisting of a RM150 SPOTLIGHT voucher, RM10 Subway voucher and RM40 Fish & Co. voucher.
Faiha Binti Bahari, 8 years old and Lam Weng Yi, 8 years old were the 2 winners for the special consolation prizes worth RM100 consisting of a RM50 Giant voucher, RM10 Subway voucher and RM40 Fish & Co. voucher.
All contestants will not go home empty handed as there were participation prize for non-winners worth RM80 consisting of RM40 Subway voucher and RM40 Fish & Co. voucher.
