THRILLS FOR ALL AS GOLF TOURNAMENT UNVEILS FOUR-DAY FESTIVAL

Visitors at this year’s Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia will be forgiven for wondering which way to look when the action gets underway at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC) next month, with a number of exciting developments planned both on and off the golf course.

Billed ‘the most fun you’ll ever have at a golf event’, the annual showpiece – the first of the so-called ‘Asian Swing’ tournaments – is making a concerted effort to ensure that the 8-11 October event attracts golf novices as much as it does seasoned single-handicappers.

On course, spectators will be able to watch the likes of Lydia Ko and Michelle Wie going head to head from a new, covered spectator grandstand over-looking the 18th green. A huge screen adjacent to the 18th, complete with live commentary and onsite emcee, will make for easy spectator viewing, which together with a new open-air commentary box in full view of spectators, are just some of the enhancements planned to take the live viewing experience to a new level not previously seen in Malaysia.

But it’s in the off-course entertainment line-up that spectators can expect to see the most significant developments. With families and first timers likely to be more enthused by the thought of a mouth-watering burger or roti canai and chilling out to some tunes than learning their birdies from their bogeys, there are activities planned to suit all tastes.

Patricia Knudsen, popularly known as Patricia K, takes on the role of Resident DJ at the new ‘Courtyard’ marquee – a huge open sided tent at the heart of the concourse, overlooking the players practise putting green and a stone’s throw from the 18th hole. Complete with a Players Corner where visitors will get to meet the stars of the LPGA Tour, and food stalls serving an array of dishes prepared by KLGCC Head Chef Arnold, the venue is set to be the new social hub and meet-point for the four-day festival.
In another new development, the KL Food Truck Festival will be making its golfing debut at this year’s tournament. Six of the capital’s favourite food trucks – Ken’s Food Truck, Burger Giler Power, The Malaysian Ninja Truck, Cowboys Truck, Wheelloaf and Thyme Out – will be serving a variety of dishes, encompassing Malaysia’s best home grown specialities, international favourites, vegetarian options and everything in between. With prices capped at RM 10- per dish – and a free dish included in the ticket price – the initiative will bring a whole new flavour to the tournament.

Pink Saturday returns on Saturday 10th October, giving players and spectators their chance to show their support during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, while wannabe pros will be able to test themselves against the stars at the Konica Minolta Chip-4-Charity. The interactive contest returns to the West Course Lake, promising a host of prizes for anyone that can chip a ball off a raised platform onto a floating green. Five attempts cost just RM 10-, providing novices to club regulars with the chance to impress while supporting Cancer Research Malaysia in the process.

The Konica Minolta Chip-4-Charity will also be embarking on a pre-event road show enabling keen participants to try their luck prior to the actual tournament. The road show is offering one lucky winner an all expenses paid trip to Bali following stops at Saujana Golf and Country Club from 14 – 20 September, Tropicana Golf and Country Club from 21 – 27 September, and KLGCC from 28 September – 3 October.

A new look poolside Kids Zone located close to all the golf, food and action will provide daylong entertainment for the little ones. With children under-12 granted free access to the pool, including all-day life-guard supervision, and a host of activities including face-painting, Xbox Games, game-stalls and a kids putting green, the four day bonanza promises to be a hit for the whole family.

No public event would be complete without some retail therapy and Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia certainly doesn’t disappoint. Visitors can seek out fantastic bargains on the latest golf gear and accessories, courtesy of Nike and MST Golf, while sponsors Konica Minolta, Samsung, One World, Gatorade, Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care, Tourism Malaysia, and Astro will ensure that a trip to the Sponsors Village is well worth the effort. All ticket holders will receive discount vouchers to the Sponsors Village.

With a free food voucher included with every ticket purchased, a Lucky Draw worth up to RM 500,000-, plus a host of other freebies on offer including exclusive golf umbrellas and Magnum ice creams, the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2015 is certainly living up to its billing.

Speaking about her involvement at this year’s tournament, the Danish-Malaysian model, DJ and television host, Patricia K said, “I’m really excited to be coming down to the Sime Darby LPGA again. It should be a great few days with music, food trucks, lots of freebies – and the world’s best golfers – all in one place! It’ll be a great way to get out of the city and enjoy a day out with friends. Come on down and see you at the Courtyard!”

Jeff Little, organiser of the KL Food Truck Festival, added, “We are delighted to have been invited to join the festivities at this year’s event and showcase some of our gastronomic creations. The KL Food Truck Festival’s involvement is all about making the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia accessible and good fun for everyone. As culinary professionals, it’s our job to ensure that customers leave with an experience they’ll always remember, and I think we’ll do just that, so it’s a very good fit all round.”

Open to the public from 7.30am to 6pm, 8-11 October 2015, tickets cost just RM 30- per day (Thu – Sun) and RM 50- for a new Weekend Pass (Sat & Sun) making 2015 Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia one of the best value entertainment choices of the year!
